Arrival/Dismissal Procedures
Arrival
Pre-K and Kindergarten
- Door 1 (near room 117) will be used for grades Pre-K and Kindergarten.
- Pre-K and Kindergarten Teachers will alternate and monitor students at entrance time.
- There should always be two adults at each door.
- Safety Patrol students will assist in monitoring students during entry.
- Mr. Smith (AO) and Ms. Henderson (CCF) will be outside this door at arrival
First, Second and Third Grades
- Door 4 (near room 118) will be the entrance for First, Second and Third Grade Students.
- First, Second and Third Grade Teachers will alternate and monitor students at entrance time.
- Third grade students will use stairwell 2 (near room 108/Art Room) and proceed to their teachers’ classrooms.
- There should always be two adults at each door.
- Safety Patrol students will assist in monitoring students during entry.
- Dean Webster will be outside this door at arrival
Fourth-Eighth Grades
- Door 3 (main door) All Teachers are outside their door in the hall during morning entrance of students.
- All Teachers will supervise students at their lockers.
- No Lavatory Time
- All students are in their classes at 9:00 a.m.
- Principal Wood and AP Dirden will be outside this door at arrival
- All students must be taught to line up outside of your door in an area of your designation and they must be greeted individually by each teacher at the start of every class transition. This is a component of CHAMPS and also within Brewer’s Capturing Kids Hearts routine.
Dismissal
- There will be a staggered exit for Brewer Students.
- The 1st floor students will prepare for dismissal at 4:05 pm
- The 2nd floor students will prepare for dismissal at 4:08 pm
- At the sound of the dismissal bell teachers are to escort their students outside of their assigned exit door. Pre-K and Kindergarten
- All Students (Pre-K and K) will be dismissed from the main entrance for security purposes
- Pre-K and Kindergarten Teachers will walk students outside and dismiss students.
- Pre-K Parents will arrive through the main entrance only to pick up their children.
- They must exit through the main entrance only
- No one may enter through Door 1
- At the sound of the dismissal bell Kindergarten students will be dismissed and escorted by their teachers through Door 1 (near 117)
- Safety Patrol students will assist in monitoring students during dismissal.
First, Second and Third Grades
- All Students (grades 1-3) will be dismissed from the main entrance for security purposes.
- First, Second and Third Grade Teachers will walk students outside and dismiss students.
- Third grade teachers on the 2nd floor will escort their students down stairwell 2 (near room 108/Art Room) and out of Door 4.
- Safety Patrol students will assist in monitoring students during dismissal.
Fourth-Eighth Grades
- All Students (grades 4-8) will be dismissed from the main entrance for security purposes.
- All Teachers will walk their students to Door 3 for dismissal.
- Safety Patrol students will assist in monitoring students during dismissal.
- Attendance Officer Smith will address early pick-ups with the parents and explain their impact on student attendance records. Attendance Officer Smith will be at the main entrance door at 3:30 to address this issue
Late Student Pick-up
To ensure the safety and supervision of students not being picked up on time, our school has established
clear guidelines for late pickups.
- If a student is not picked up within 15 minutes of dismissal or the end of an after-school activity, designated staff will supervise the student and attempt to contact parents/guardians.
- If contact cannot be made within an hour, DPSCD Public Safety will be involved, and Child Protective Services (CPS) may be engaged.
- Parents are urged to provide accurate emergency contact information and adhere to pickup times.
- Repeated late pickups will require a meeting with the Principal to develop a plan of action and could result in a loss of privileges or even police action. For more details, please refer to our student handbook.

School Dress Code
Brewer Academy is a uniform school. The thoughtful design and careful administering of a dress code is essential to the success of the school.
Appropriate and acceptable uniforms for Brewer Academy Elem/Middle School are:
Our School Colors
Burgundy, Red, Black, White
Slacks and Pants
* Color: All slacks and pants must be a solid color: Khaki, navy blue, or black. (Leggings and tights are not allowed.)
* Style: Slacks and pants can be pleated or flat front, full length and appropriately fastened at the waist.
* Material: Cotton, canvas, corduroy, linen, polyester, wool or fabric blends.
* Belts: If the garment has belt loops, a belt should be worn at all times
Tops
* Shirts and blouses must have buttoned down or straight collars. Turtlenecks and polo styles are permitted. At the school’s discretion, tops must be worn tucked inside pants, slacks, or skirts.
* Color: All students shall wear approved colors required by the school.
* Style: Long and short sleeves with a collar required. Turtlenecks and polo styles are permitted.
* Logos: Manufacturer trademarks, if any, must be one inch or less. DPSCD school logos are permitted and are not limited in size.
Skirts and Jumpers/Skorts
* Color: Khaki, navy blue and black, in a solid, single color.
* Style: Skirts must be at least knee length.
Jackets, Cardigans, and Sweaters
* Color: Should match an accepted uniform color.
* Style: All must be worn over a collared shirt, turtleneck, or polo style top.
* Hooded Jacket: Hoods are not to be worn (on the head) during the school day
Footwear
* Style: Athletic shoes, laced shoes and/or other shoe boots, loafers, dress shoes, or other closed-toed/closed heel shoes.
* Students are prohibited from wearing toed boots or shoes to school.
* Mules are inappropriate.
Parent Resources
PBIS Program
Positive Behavioral Interventions and Support (PBIS) is a way for schools to encourage good behavior. With PBIS, schools teach kids about behavior, just as they would teach about other subjects like reading or math. The focus of PBIS is prevention, not punishment.
Climate and Culture Facilitator
Lead and manage the school's culture and disciplinary program. Ensure that students demonstrate the values and expectations as defined by the School Code of Conduct. To analyze data with administrative staff and teachers to maximize student learning. Plan and execute beneficial professional developement throughout the year to create a culture of calm that results in maximized student learning.
Social Worker
School social workers work with students to identify, address, and overcome obstacles. Trained as mental health professional, a school social worker can serve as a trusted point of contact between students and their families, teachers, and school administrators.
Speech Pathologist
a school speech therapist, helps to prevent communication problems by identifying kids at risk of developing their skills. They do research into communication impairments and advocate for programs to help these students.
Academic Interventionist
An academic intervention is a strategy used to teach a new skill, build fluency in a skill, or encourage a child to apply an existing skill to new situations or settings. An intervention also might be working with students on time management skills or consistently submitting homework assignments.
Attendance Agent
The officer shall also work cooperatively with teachers, counselors, school administrators, and parents to assure compliance with attendance laws and regulations, and other related duties as required. Investigate non-attendance to insure legality of absence excuses.
DHS Representative
PTA
The role of the PTA (The Parent Teacher Association), promotes parent involvement in school communities.
Nutritionist Program
The school nutrition program for the school independently or alongside additional school nutrition professionals. They are directly responsible for the management of the day-to-day operations of school food service.
